Google’s decision to shut down its Translate API has created an obvious shock and a feel of null around in localization industry. This may hamper traffic of some social websites providing Google’s translation service from there pages, also this decision has shattered some new bees; planning to add Google API to their web services. Though from last one year there was a circumspection suggesting this news still for most in the translation sector, it is a harsh wakeup call in the middle of a nice dream.
This action has opened doors in two sectors; first, for experienced translators who were shadowed by comparatively less knowledgeable translators, referring Google to understand sentence meanings and searching meanings of a term in context, secondly MT industry which was also shadowed by Google free translation service. Now they can breathe a fresh air!
As predicted; if Google come in new payable avatar, it won’t be affordable for individuals only companies may think of buying it, in that case I think other free MT services should prepare for heavy traffic of translators.
